The fuel behind Iran's nuclear drive

"Much of the argument over the intentions of Iran's nuclear program revolves around a single proposition that goes like this.
Given that Iran has huge oil and gas reserves, it has no need for nuclear power for domestic energy needs and thus its nuclear program will be used for nuclear weapons.

Like much so-called conventional wisdom, is this is a highly misleading and debatable cliche?

I have perused the article and I have to say this: Iran is a sinister country, it is not a democracy at all. Iran foreign policy is a dirty business. Iran, of all countries, should not be alowed nuclear power.

I just hope that in this case our idiotic politicians realise the dangers and cut short Iran's nuclear ambitions. This is a serious problem. The fact that US and European armies are already over-deployed in Iraq does not help.
